Lima The City of the Kings

The City of the Kings
Peru’s capital, Lima, is the main gateway to Peru, a city bustling with living history and activity. It is an ethnic melting pot, with a heritage that features pre-Hispanic, colonial and modern elements. With more than 8.5 million inhabitants, Lima is also the country’s largest city. In 1988, Lima was named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO as a symbol of the cultural diversity that distinguishes Peru.

Titicaca Lake

Exploring the World’s Highest Navigable Lake Extending from south-eastern Peru to western Bolivia, Titicaca Lake is the cradle of Incan civilisation and is the highest navigable lake in the world (approx. 3,810 meters or 12,500 feet) – and the largest lake in South America. The lake is 196 km long (122 miles) with an average width of 56 km (35 mi) and an average depth of 107 meters (351 feet). The lake’s waters are cold and blue making a beautiful contrast to the parched Altiplano.

Ica

Ica is located on the Ica River, about 300 km south of Lima, along the desert coast of southern Peru on the Panamericana Highway. Ica is the capital of the Ica region. The area was long inhabited by various cultures of indigenous people before the Spanish conqueror Geronimo Luis de Cabrera claimed its founding in 1563.

Ballestas Islands

The Natural Paradise The Ballestas Islands are a group of small islands located off the Paracas peninsula. They’re also known as the “poor man’s Galapagos” or “the mini-Galapagos of Peru” because of their prolific wildlife and the astonishing scenery they offer to visitors.

Colca Canyon

The canyon runs for about 70 km (43 miles), and with a depth of 3,191 meters (10,500 feet) it is the second deepest canyon in the world– second only to its neighbour, Cotahuasi Canyon (160 meters or 525 feet deeper).

Arequipa The White City

The White City Rooted in the Andean traditions of the Altiplano, Arequipa is located in the south-western part of the country and is the second largest city of Peru. Sitting at 2,335 meters above sea level (7,661 feet), Arequipa is surrounded by three volcanoes: the cone-shaped El Misti (5,822 meters or 19,100 feet), the always snow capped Chachani (6,075 meters or 19,900 feet) and Picchu Picchu (5,425 meters 17,800 feet). The three volcanoes range in elevation from just under 18,000 feet to approximately 20,000.

Sacred Valley of Incas

Exploring the Majestic Valley of the Incas El Valle Sagrado (the Sacred Valley) of the Incas is located 15 km (9miles) north of the Inca capital of Cusco at 2,800 meters. The Sacred Valley was once the Inca Empire’s main point for the extraction of natural wealth, and one of the most important areas for the production of corn in Peru.

Inca Trail to Machu Picchu

The once-in-a-lifetime experience! The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is one of the most famous trekking routes in the world, built by the Inca more than 500 years ago! Cusco, the “Archaeological Capital of the Americas”

Cusco, the “Archaeological Capital of the Americas” Cusco sits at 3,300 meters (10,826 feet) in the Watanay Valley, once a gigantic glacial lake, the “Ballivian Lake”. The centre of the city retains many buildings, plazas, and streets from pre-Columbian and colonial times and as such is of great importance in the antiquity sense. Cusco was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1983.

History of Peru

Responsible Travel in Peru

As a local Peruvian tourism company, we are committed to travelling in a manner that respects local cultures, local communities, and their traditions.
We understand that our activity has an impact on the environment. In this regard, we attempt to minimise our environmental impact on the cities and/or communities we visit. We operate without disrupting the way local economies function.

How we do that?

  • In selecting our partners, we tend to choose local operators whenever possible. The goal is to ensure that members of the local community benefit from our activities. For example, in Amantani (Lake Titicaca) instead of contracting with a local agency, we seek to work directly with local community members who live on the island, even if this results in a slightly higher cost.
  • We use local public transport whenever possible, as well as local guides.
  • We personally monitor our travellers with respect to local customs, and we help you implement best practices to minimise our environmental impact.
To achieve these goals, we believe it is beneficial to travel in small groups. This ensures that you experience local cultures first-hand.

Our Values

Expertise

We travel only to destinations we know well – and our expertise is in firsthand knowledge of Southern Peru. We have personally visited all the destinations that appear in our tours. We have also carefully organised each tour, eaten in each and every restaurant we recommend, and have a close personal relationship with each of our guides.

Reliability

We care more about our reputation than our earnings. Your security and your enjoyment of a very memorable trip are a must for us.

Innovation

Our ambition is to safely explore sites outside typical “gringo trails”, where many tourists spend most of their time. We attempt to show you the somewhat hidden side of Peru and the various traditions of this magical land.

Passion

Perú InsideOut is made up of people who love travelling. We want you to experience the soul of Peru.
Travel with us: we’re waiting for you!

Our Values

Our Story

Perú InsideOut was born, oddly enough, in a coffeehouse in Arequipa, southern Peru! I had the idea of developing a tour company that focused on the heart and soul of Peru, but did so with European flair and expertise. And I wanted to focus on southern Peru, the area I know best. Choosing a name able to embody the spirit of the project was a daunting enterprise. I juggled names for days on end with a friend of mine, and … Voilà! Peru InsideOut was born.
My name is Roberto D’Amico, by the way. I’m Italian by birth but I’ve completed graduate studies in both Italy and France. I have worked and lived in London, Brussels, Rome, Paris, Perth, Sydney, and – since October 2010 – Arequipa, Peru! I speak four languages (Italian, English, French, and Spanish), though Italian is my mother-tongue. In addition, I have had the good fortune to travel extensively and have firsthand experience of Bolivia, Chile, and Argentina.
In setting up my tour company, I travelled extensively in Peru – completing months of research on the road. I visited all of the destinations to which Perú InsideOut travels. I have eaten in the restaurants, toured museums, taken copious notes, travelled by bus, travelled by air, travelled by rail, met with local tour guides, learned the customs, spoken with the locals, and now know Peru inside out on a close and personal level! It is this knowledge and experience that Perú InsideOut wish to share with you. I offer you the flair of a European, applied to travel in the often mysterious but always captivating … Peru.
