DAY 15. City Tour of Cusco
The Custo City
tour is private. In the morning we start off with the great palace of
the Inca “Hatun Cancha Rumi”— in the Quechua language. Our first visit
is through the Koricancha. The Temple of the Sun is used every year as
the starting point of the celebration of the Inti Raymi on 24 June.
After lunch it is time to learn about the Inca ruins around Cusco. First stop is Saqsayhuaman, one of the greatest examples of Inca architecture. Saqsayhuaman was used as a strategic point to supervise the defence of Cusco. Next, you move on to Puca Pucara, an important military ruin called the Red Fortress. Later, you visit Tambomachay known as the El Baño del Inca, “The Bath of the Inca”. This ruin is believed to have been used as a resort by the Incan elite. The Cusco tour finishes in Kenko a holy place where the Incas practiced sacrifices to their gods. Your Cusco visit ends here. Overnight stay in Cusco. |
