Machu Picchu sits near the Cusco region at 2,430 meters (7,972 feet)
above sea level. The word Machu Picchu means “Old Peak” in Quechua (the
original language of Incas) and since 2007, Machu Picchu, was voted one
of the new Seven Wonders of the World. The city of Machu Picchu was
abandoned at the time of the Spanish Conquest in the XVI century and
revealed to the world by the explorer Hiram Bingham on July 24, 1911.
